Classical Prānāyāma: A 5hr Online Training w Rose Lamont
Saturday January 27th & Sunday January 28th
4p - 6:30p EST
Pranayama serves as a vital bridge between the breath and the mind, acting as a transformative force in meditation, fostering a profound sense of inner awareness and a harmonious connection between the physical and mental dimensions of one's being.
Discover the practical significance of pranayama within the yogic framework and understand its role as a fundamental step in the process of meditation.
In this workshop series we will cover:
Pranayama Philosophy: The mind and breath (or life energy) share a close connection, where influencing one directly impacts the other. For instance, heightened emotions lead to faster breathing, while calmness slows it down. Recognising this correlation, yogins devised a set of techniques to regulate the breath, thereby gaining control over the mind. These practices are collectively known as prānāyāma.
In modern Hatha-Yoga, the reintroduction of prānāyāma brings significant promise. This resurgence provides a direct pathway to experientially connect with prana - a life force separate from mere oxygen. It also provides an opportunity for practitioners to understand themselves on a deeper level and make real progress into the deeper dimensions of yoga.
Historical Roots and Evolution: Trace the historical origins and evolution of pranayama, connecting with the texts that have shaped its development.
Mind - Breath Dynamics: Explore the intricate connection between breath and mind, unraveling the tangible effects of conscious breathing on mental states.
Physiology and Mechanics: Gain insights into the biomechanics and physiology of pranayama, focusing on the three key phases of respiration: Inhalation (Puraka), Retention (Kumbhaka), and Exhalation (Rechaka).
Mastery of 8 Classical Techniques:
Ujjayi Pranayama (Victorious Breath): Calming
Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing): Balancing
Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath): Energizing
Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breath): Tranquilizing
Sheetali Pranayama (Cooling Breath): Cooling
Sheetkari Pranayama (Hissing Breath): Refreshing
Bhastrika Pranayama (Bellows Breath): Invigorating
Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing with Retention): Harmonizing/Clarifying
Practical Integration of related techniques: Learn how to seamlessly integrate pranayama with other yogic practices such as asanas, bandhas, and mudras for enhanced benefits.
